We have implemented several small actions which, taken together, make a big difference. Here's how we take care of you and the environment:
Energy renovation of the house
During the renovation of Maisons Vaudésir, we chose to favor sustainable materials and environmentally friendly products (Algo paint based on algae made in Brittany) as well as building practices:
* thermal insulation of walls and ceilings
* replacement of old windows with new double-glazed joinery
Resource management
We installed equipment inside the house to minimize electricity and water consumption:
* low consumption LED bulbs in all rooms
* double push flush on toilets, thermostatic taps on showers
Ethical products
All of our bedding – beds, mattresses and bed linen – is made in France, highlighting local craftsmanship and reducing the carbon footprint linked to transport.
In addition, we have integrated furniture mainly made in France or found in France, to combine elegance and durability. This approach is part of our desire to support local producers while offering unparalleled comfort to our guests.
A durable and timeless interior
All of our decoration choices are guided by our desire to respect the planet. Whether by opting for antique pieces or by selecting furniture made from sustainable materials, each object tells a story and is part of an approach to reasoned consumption. By favoring recycling and reuse, we limit our collective waste.
No plastic water bottles
We favor the use of glass carafes and bottles and provide quality, filtered water for our guests.
A sparkling water maker is at your disposal.
Zero single-use paper
We do not use paper towels. Instead, we provide cloth napkins, which are washable and reusable.
Eco-responsible products for your comfort
* Bamboo toilet paper and tissues, biodegradable and sustainable, from the Who Gives A Crap brand.
* Natural and refillable body products (shower gel, shampoo, soap), Les Choses Simple brand made in France, to reduce plastic waste and reduce harmful chemicals.
A household that respects nature
To clean the house, we only use ecological products made in France, without harmful chemicals, for a healthy environment and to respect your health.
Promotion of zero waste
In every area of the house, we encourage our guests to adopt simple but effective actions to reduce waste.
For coffee, you will find a Moccamaster with artisanal coffee from the region, as well as organic and French teas and infusions, all without disposable capsules.
Future-oriented projects
We are aware that there is so much to do in the field of ecology.
We have other projects in mind to implement in order to further improve our ecological practices:
*Our next home renovation project aims to take our commitment to responsible vacations even further. With the installation of photovoltaic panels for the electricity of the two houses.
* Installation of a rainwater collector and Nordic bath water for watering plants and cleaning the exterior.
What you can do
Use public/shared transportation
If you come by car, your carbon footprint will be much lower than for a plane trip. Visit destinations near you!
If you choose to come by train, Maisons Vaudésir is only 20 km from two stations.
Sort your waste
The community of Chablis has implemented selective sorting. The rules are simple and therefore easy to follow.
1. All packaging, except glass, must be placed in the yellow bin:
* cardboard, metal and plastic packaging (all plastics)
* all unsoiled papers
2. The glass is collected separately, we provide a blue container.
3. Everything else and organic waste goes into the green bin.
Save resources
Just like at home, you can help save essential resources such as water and energy:
1. Save water: take shorter showers and don’t run the faucet when brushing your teeth, washing dishes, or preparing meals.
2. Save energy: do not leave unnecessary lights on, only run the dishwasher when it is full and use the “Eco” program.
Buy local
Make the local economy work by shopping at markets or buying directly from local producers.
There are many advantages to this exchange: you buy local and seasonal products, you know where what you eat comes from, and you interact with producers.
Encourage respectful tourism
Chablis is a region rich in cultural and natural discoveries.
There are so many activities in our region that there is no need to travel many kilometers to find those that will satisfy you.
The Yonne is a life-size playground and you can stock up on memories with outdoor activities without ecological impact: walks, bike rides, scooter rides, horseback riding, hot air balloon flights, etc.
We encourage our guests to explore the surrounding area on foot or by bike to reduce their environmental impact. Whether for a stroll in the vineyards or a visit to the tasting cellars, we invite you to discover Chablis in slow travel mode.
